Katriel Paige - Traditional Treats
A panel that melds history with sweets. It goes into the history of ingredients like the two major types of red bean paste, an aside about tea (as many sweets were developed to go with tea), and up to more "modern" sweets like Sakuma Drops, chocolate, and Pocky. I also try to provide some ideas of where treats and ingredients can be found/bought. It debuted at Katsucon 2015 for their Japanese Cultural Institute/educational track.

We Con Therefore We Are by Charles Dunbar
What does it mean to be an otaku? What counts as anime fandom in this day and age? And why do we see so much non-Asian flavor at cons? Much of the convention culture and dynamic has changed in the past 5+ years, and the con has changed with it, often beginning to mirror the idea of Convergence Theory as proposed by fan-scholar Henry Jenkins. This panel will highlight the changes in the fandom, how the internet has influenced the direction cons have taken, and will ask questions on where all this is going in the near-future. Healthy debate is encouraged.
